Unit Brief: Australia’s waste is growing at twice the rate of its population and the country is now one of the worst in the developed world when it comes to generating rubbish.
Growing your own food is one way to reduce your environmental impact as there are fewer components involved in producing your food and bringing it to your plate. This unit will look at growing, cooking and marketing of food products for human consumption that ethically considers environmental impact and sustainability. |
Project: (60%)Requirements: There are three PRACTICAL parts to the unit of work that will be assessed:
Growing:
Must: Produce a self-watering plant pot form recycled materials. Should: Germinate a seasonal herb/vegetable within the self-watering plant pot. Could: Harvest the herb/vegetable to be used in a cooking ingredient. Cooking: Must: Design, develop and produce a unique dip using fresh ingredients (in pairs). Should: Your dip should be a nutritious and healthy snack option. Could: Your dip should appeal to a wide audience by rating highly on the "TAC" scale. Marketing: Must: Develop and market the dip with your own company logo Should: Produce a label for your product with the company logo and additional product information. Could: Produce advertising material for your product: eg: Poster or Website |
Folio: (20%)Folio Brief: Your project will need to follow a sequence of development stages and your folio documents this process.
Your Project Folio is worth 20% of your final mark and is compiled of homework tasks and classroom activities. You will be required to complete the folio for homework and submit it to your teacher in order to get the best results you can! |
Written Task: (20%)Research assignment: Students are to written the unit topic and submit evidence on their findings by answering the questions on the attached written task worksheet.
