Unit Brief: Today performance car manufacturers around the world strive to design cars which are as light as possible and harness aerodynamic forms which allow them to travel at a maximum speed with minimum resistance..
You have been tasked to design a drag racer which will travel down a track in the fastest possible time… Beat your mates and make it to the top of the podium! |
Project: (60%)Requirements: Using the reduction process, you will remove timber to produce the desired shape for your selected aerodynamic design.
Must: Using a block of Balsa (300 x 75 x 50mm), a pair of steel axels and a set of four plastic wheels, design and make a Pitsco racer.
Should: When propelled by a Co2 canister, travel the full length of the race track which measures 30 metres Could: To increase the aesthetic appeal of your vehicle you may modify; Weight, Form, Colour, Graphics, etc. |
Folio: (20%)Folio Brief: This unit follows a sequence of development stages and your folio documents this process. Your Project Folio is worth 20% of your final mark and is compiled of both homework tasks and classroom activities.
|
Research Task: (20%)Research assignment: Students are to research the unit topic and submit evidence on their findings by thoroughly answering the questions on the attached research task worksheet.

Past Project Gallery
In class you will need to do a PMI analysis on three past student designs chosen from the images below, .
Write the results of this activity into your Project Folio.
"A PMI analysis looks at an object from all design angles. Identify and describe one PLUS feature of the design (something that is good about it), one MINUS feature (something that is not so good) and one INTERESTING feature (neither good or bad but something that perhaps makes it different)."
